Interstates and bypasses circle cities around America, and eventually development moves outside the last circle into the heartland. Here, they're buying up the land south of the interstate and squeezing in new development as tight as possible. Tree bark and kudzu turn golden brown in the late afternoon sunlight. The trees are full of kudzu. Sometimes there is more kudzu than tree in a tall tree. We're now at the peak of summer. There is little space left for the trees to expand any further, and the trails are overgrown. It's sweltering hot in the sun, but cooler in the forest under the trees. It's the best time of summer.
