Countryside: Getting Out of Town

The edges of town quickly give way to the countryside. This is where the land has memory. From downtown, five miles in any direction will put you on a country road. In some directions, it's no more than three miles. The interstate is only minutes from downtown, and once you're on the interstate, any exit will take you into the countryside. Twenty minutes to the west, and you'll be crossing the top of Afton mountain. The exit on Afton mountain will put you on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or the Skyline Drive. Either direction, south or north, will take you along the crest of the Blue Ridge mountains. Scenic stops along the way will offer you hikes on the Appalachian Trail and mountaintop vistas to the east and west. The Scots-Irish settled on this land. They hacked out clearings in the mountains and built log cabins. It's a mystic land. Why would anyone live anywhere else?

Gear Photos were shot with a Nikon Coolpix A, Nikon D750, and a Zeiss Milvus 35 mm f/2.0.
